上下斜睥:李香蘭上・下禾輋原稿展|Rainbow’s wo che village original show

據說 Rainbow 曾經是我的學生,但我完全想不起。看過她的作品後,反而我想成為她的學生。

在日常生活裡,你可有細心留意身邊事物的變化?二十多歲的李香蘭某天發現居住的禾輋村內一株陪伴她成長的木棉樹被砍掉了。世事無常, 觸發她逐一採訪一班似是熟悉卻又陌生的老街坊,記下他們的小故事,並以別樹一幟的畫風及文字創作成《上・下禾輋》。

於艺鵠舉行的「上下斜睥:李香蘭《上・下禾輋》原稿展」是這故事的延續。

是次展覽除了展出部份在書中已出版的原稿外,更會展出不少從未曝光的畫作。當中包括造型怪誕卻又讓人感到無比溫暖的家人及一幅幅活脫脫的村民肖像;投射作者對愛貓思念的畫作;被遺忘或己消失的風景;甚至少女在上下禾輋村的戀愛插曲… 等等。李香蘭的作品率真可愛,看罷不禁令人會心微笑,欣賞其作品絕對是一種令人快樂的經驗。

李香蘭想藉今次展覽重現作品最原本的色彩,讓在水泥世界生活的都市人感受一下禾輋村的鄉土風情。屆時亦會出售繪本、部份原稿作品與特製精品來支持她的創作生活。

In daily life, have you ever paid attention to the changes around you? Having discovered that one of the cotton trees which grew up with her was suddenly cut down, Rainbow Leung, who is still in her 20s, was inspired to conduct interviews in her neighbourhood and jot down the inside stories to accompany her unique paintings in her book.

This exhibition is the extension of the story. Other than displaying some of the manuscripts included in the book, this exhibition will also show some of her unpublished art works and writings. Her art productions includes some seemingly bizarre yet heart-warming portraits of her family members and villagers; paintings dedicated to her pet cat; those views which are abandoned; sceneries which have disappeared; or even a love story of a teenage girl happening in the Village… Rainbow’s sincere productions engage many audiences , for appreciating her works is such a pleasant and enjoyable experience.

Rainbow hopes to present the true colour of her work in this exhibition; to introduce her beloved Wo Che Village to the public; the picturebook, part of her manuscripts as well as some products will be selling in the exhibition to support her future artwork production.

自小於下禾輋長大, 祟尚自由奔放的生活, 並把這種生活態度轉化成藝術風格。最喜歡畫人,捕捉人臉上的動態, 被畫的人會大叫救命, 圍觀的人卻捧腹大笑。

Rainbow grows up in Wo Che Village, pursues the free lifestyle and integrates this philosophy of life into her art style. Her passion for drawing portraits and capturing the different motions on others’ faces is insatiable, those being drawn may feel desperate but the passers-by will certainly laugh their heads off.

Is global emancipation a lost cause? Are universal values outdated relics of an earlier age? In this combative major new work, philosophical sharpshooter Slavoj Žižek takes on the reigning ideology with a plea that we should re-appropriate several “lost causes,” and looks for the kernel of truth in the “totalitarian” politics of the past. Examining Heidegger’s seduction by fascism and Foucault’s flirtation with the Iranian Revolution, he suggests that these were the “right steps in the wrong direction.”

Highlighting the revolutionary terror of Robespierre, Mao and the Bolsheviks, Žižek argues that while these struggles ended in historic failure and monstrosity, this is not the entire story. There was, in fact, a redemptive moment that gets lost in the outright liberal-democratic rejection of revolutionary authoritarianism and the valorization of soft, consensual, decentralized politics. Žižek claims that, particularly in light of the forthcoming ecological crisis, we should reinvent revolutionary terror and the dictatorship of the proletariat in the struggle for universal emancipation. We need to courageously accept the return to this cause —even if we court the risk of a catastrophic disaster. In the words of Samuel Beckett, “Try again. Fail again. Fail better.”


Slavoj Žižek is a Slovenian philosopher and cultural critic. He is a professor at the European Graduate School, International Director of the Birkbeck Institute for the Humanities, Birkbeck College, University of London, and a senior researcher at the Institute of Sociology, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia.

In this bravura analysis of the current global crisis following on from his bestselling Welcome to the Desert of the Real, Slavoj Zizek argues that the liberal idea of the “end of history,” declared by Francis Fukuyama during the 1990s, has had to die twice. After the collapse of the liberal-democratic political utopia, on the morning of 9/11, came the collapse of the economic utopia of global market capitalism at the end of 2008.

Marx argued that history repeats itself “occuring first as tragedy, the second time as farce” and Zizek, following Herbert Marcuse, notes here that the repetition as farce can be even more terrifying than the original tragedy. The financial meltdown signals that the fantasy of globalization is over and as millions are put out of work it has become impossible to ignore the irrationality of global capitalism. Just a few months before the crash, the world’s priorities seemed to be global warming, AIDS, and access to medicine, food and water — tasks labelled as urgent, but with any real action repeatedly postponed.

Now, after the financial implosion, the urgent need to act seems to have become unconditional — with the result that undreamt of quantities of cash were immediately found and then poured into the financial sector without any regard for the old priorities. Do we need further proof, Zizek asks, that Capital is the Real of our lives: the Real whose demands are more absolute than even the most pressing problems of our natural and social world?

跟很多二戰後獲取了獨立地位的前殖民地不同,作為英國的前殖民地,香港並沒有經歷過漫長的解殖民過程。吊詭的是,香港的解殖是在香港回歸中國的「一秒」之間完成的,期間既無血流成河的反殖運動,亦無痛苦而漫長的文化解殖(洗底)過程。但香港的解殖工程真的早已功德完滿,成為了歷史上的蓋棺定案嗎?還是,香港回歸後所浮現的種種問題,不過是香港百年殖民遺產的延續?回歸十二年了,同時趁著國慶六十周年前夕,《Collaborative Colonial Power: The Making of the Hong Kong Chinese》一書作者羅永生帶領我們回到歷史的深淵,為當下香港的後殖民狀況,尋找殖民的根源。

Law Wing Sang provides an alternative lens for looking into Hong Kong’s history by breaking away for the usual colonial and nationalist interpretations. Drawing on both English and Chinese sources, he argues that, from the early colonial era, colonial power has been extensively shared between colonizers and the Chinese who chose to work with them.

This exploration of the form of colonial power includes critical discussions of various cultural and institutional aspects, looking into such issues as education, language use, political ideologies and other cultural and political concerns. These considerations permit the author to shed new light from a historical perspective on the complex and hotly debated question of Hong Kong identity. But it is not written just out of an interest in things of the past. Rather, the arguments of this book shed new light on some current issues of major relevance to post-colonial Hong Kong.

In making critical use of post-colonial approaches, this book not only makes an original and important contribution to Hong Kong studies, but also makes evident that Hong Kong is an important case for all interested in examining the colonial experience in East Asia.

This book is of interest to all with an interest in Hong Kong’s history and current issues, but also more widely to those who study the phenomenon of colonialism in the Asian region.
